At Duncan Creek Equestrian, our ponies are the heart of every moment spent horseback riding here in the beautiful Fletcher and Mills River area. Whether you’re joining us for beginner riding lessons, confidence-building horse riding sessions, or simply looking to connect with gentle horses, our herd is ready to welcome you.
Each pony at Duncan Creek has a unique personality, a steady temperament, and a love for working with riders of all ages. Our lesson horses are carefully selected to help students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. From first-time riders getting comfortable in the saddle to returning students mastering new skills, our ponies make every ride memorable.
Take a moment to meet the friendly faces that make our program so special. From their charming quirks to their loving nature, these ponies are more than just companions—they’re a vital part of the Duncan Creek experience. Ready to get to know them? Let’s introduce you to our beloved ponies!

Onyx
Technically a miniature horse and not a pony Onyx might just be the cutest face on the farm! Onyx is an excellent lead line pony for the smallest of riders and an absolute hoot to ride for the slightly bigger kids. He has plenty of get up and go and is happy to walk, trot, canter, and jump cross rails.

Toad
Toad is with us on a temporary basis to get more miles and experience with kids. He has the sweetest attitude and has proving to be great with the kids.

Star
Owned by a student Star is a great pony for a brave beginner. Safe but has a more active walk/trot which can be a lot of fun for kids to experience.

Angel
Part of our Shetland pony crew Angel is another safe and solid beginner pony. She does all the things from up/down lessons to small crossrails. Classic pony steering aside Angel is a great part of our program.

Oreo
A fun little guy new to our program. He may be one of the few ponies you meet who will lay down on command!

Rocket
Moving up in size slightly Rocket is your step up pony. For newer students she’s an excellent teacher on the lunge line. Intermediate students enjoy her more forward ride off the line. Rocket is the one who really tickles that jumping itch and can take kids around a real jumpers course.

Popcorn
The steady eddy every program needs. Popcorn has been there and done that. He is a jack-of-all-trades who can teach a beginner how to post and take more experienced riders around a jumping course.

Chief
Chief is with us on lease for more exposure/miles with kids. He’s proven to be a bit tricky for smaller kids but has been doing great with the bigger kids. His canter is wonderful for kids needing canter miles.

Dusty
A fun cart pony who doubles as a fantastic little riding pony. Dusty has enough get up and go to be fun yet is soft in the mouth.

Chance
Practically a twin to Rocket but a little larger! Chance is a more forward ride who is the master of teaching the importance of the outside rein. A little new to jumping but proving that he’s going to be amazing once he really puts it all together.

Stormy
Stormy comes with more buttons installed that most ponies and a larger size which is great for older students. He’s able to show kids how much your legs can do to move a horse laterally. To top it all off he’s great for jumping too!

Ellie
Owned by a student Ellie is available for a few lessons a week. Ellie, an adorable Haflinger mare, has a ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to try just about anything. She is an absolute gem and does best with students who aren’t afraid of a little spunk.

Luna
An amazing small horse owned by a student. Luna may as well be Goldilocks, she’s ‘just right’. Not too fast, not too slow, sensitive but not twitchy. She has the best school-horse canter you could ask for and we’re so grateful to have access to her for some lessons.

Max
Also owned by a student Max is occasionally available for lessons for older kids/adults that don’t fit on ponies. He is the definition of a saint and even the smallest kids can ride him safely.
